A U S T R A L I A
Last December, 2017, my family decided to spend the Christmas season down under. I was living in Hawaii at the time and my brother in Manly, Australia. So for once, it made sense to take the day-long journey across the sea. My dad's side of the family lives all over the globe -- aunt and uncle in Australia, cousins in Bristol and Arizona and my nana in Canada, because of this its only so often we all get to be together. Dad sent out a family wide email back in July throwing out the idea of Christmas in Australia and within a day everyone was hands-in. So on December 14 all 11 of us found ourselves together on a ferry taking the everyday commute from the Sydney Harbor to Manly where my aunt and uncle live.
Most days were spent catching up over leisurely walks, beach waves, and of course scrabble on the porch while sipping on some afternoon wine. Some days though we adventured, leading us to hidden vineyards, the cutest beach towns, and sunset picnics. Christmas was the happiest. Since it's summer there in December we fully embraced the Aussie culture cooking shrimp on the barbie, fresh fruit and cucumber orzo salad for the Christmas dinner. We ended the day with a stroll on the beach.
I'm forever thankful for my family and the way they embrace life to the fullest, say yes to new adventures and are always down for game nights around the table.
